We adopted a 2 year old dog from a rescue group. She had either been abused or scared as a pup. She is very comfortable now with my husband and myself but she is scared of people and visibly trembles. She does not like to go on walks and is afraid of noises. She has a dog bed that was her security blanket when we first got her and she stayed in it all the time. Now she is afraid to stay there and hides up in our bedroom. We crate her during the day, as we both work, but she has obviouusly been crated before and doesn't mind it at all. In fact, if she had the choice, she would go into the crate more often! My question is...do I force her to stay downstairs and to learn to meet new people? Do I also force her to take walks and just reassure her when there are noises? She was not as obsessive compulsive as this when we first got her. It seems to be getting worse. She is so scared sometimes, she won't eat or drink because the food and water is downstairs. Anybody know what I can do?? IP: Logged |

Appease the dog in so far as moving the food and drink to a comfy location. And I would see a vet or an animal behaviorist, as the dog just may need an anti-anxiety med, yes, just like humans, to ease it into a new life. Otherwise, patience and perseverence and continuing the walks, reassurance, pats, rewards for good behavior, is all part of the big picture. Best wishes. IP: Logged |

Sorry, I am a brand new dog owner and lost myself...I have no answers for you. I do have a question though...Are you by any chance related to the Liptak's in Las Vegas? Jim and Valerie Liptak?? IP: Logged |
