Goofienewfie...I didn't realize you had two havanese dogs! I don't know very much about them except that I have been asked at least 50 times if Bailey is a Havanese. (I'm not kidding! every time we go to Petsmart too! LOL) I finally had to go searching around the internet to learn about that breed! I heard they were the expensive version of a shihpoo! LOL (Not sure you're going to agree with that or not... so just remember I'm just jokin' ...hehe). Do you show and or breed yours? what color are they? do tell!

Okay then MonsterBAiley, i hope you have some time on your hands! LOL
------------>
The Havanese.......relative of the bichon, shit tzu etc. we're in the same family tree, only differant branch. lol .
the Havanese comes from the Western Mediterranean region and has developed along the Spanish and Italian costal region. It seems the havanese were imported early to Cuba by sea captains . Most frequent colour of the havanese is brown (tobabacco) gave birth to a legend that which would mean these dogs were originating from Havana. Unfortunatly political events in Cuba led to the total disapearance of the 'old bloodlines' of the Havanese in cuba. Apparently a few dogs were sucesfully smuggled out of cuba and have descendants living in the USA.
The "ideal" havanese is a sturdy little dog, low on his legs, with long abundant hair, soft and preferalby wavy. the movement is lively and 'elastic'
Havanese is VERY bright and is easy to train as a watchdog. they are affectionate, happy, amiable, a charmer, playful and even a bit of a clown. they are suppossed to LOVE children and be able to play endlessly with them, if they're sociallized properly.
besides their personality, the best part about the havanese is that they come in EVERY COLOUR UNDER THE SUN, black, white, champagne, chocolate, tri-colors, blacks and whites EVERYTHING.

As far as cost goes, yeah i would say there quite pricy, from a 'GOOD BREEDER', between 900-anywhere to 16,00$, the most expensive ive seen were 18,500$9(Excellent lines)
the main helath problems with the breed are, cataracts, hip problems, juvinile cataracts.
All the dogs i have have been 'CERF'd' and had there hips checked.
they can live up to 17 years with the avergae life span around 14. There about 23-27cm tall at the withers with the CKC tolerance 21-29cm at the withers.
the havanese was accpeted into the CKC as a Groupd IV (toy) in 1999-2000, they have moderatly exploded in popularity which has led to more puppy mill havanese and crosses.
Many stores like Petland and Petsmart have havanese crosses that are from puppy mills.
For real entuhsiasts of the breed we have a Havanese Fancier's of Canada club.
The Havaneses' easy training ability makes them a perfect candidate for Conformation obidieance, flyball, agility, musical freestyle, scent hurdles and therapy dog programs.
As for me, I just own and show them, becasue of my age i dont think im quite ready to become a breeder-yet. i have been showing dogs ever since i was 6(jr handlers) and the Havanese for the past 3 years, my dogs are all trained by me and all shown by me, no professional handlers, on occasion i am asked to show someone elsses dog, thats kinda fun, but other than that i dont know what to tell you bout the breed. http://www.pocotesoro.homestead.com/PocoTesorosHavanese.html
^ copy and paste this link, go to t he site they're is some of the dogs i have shown, they belong to my breeder.(yes the coats look hard to groom but it only takes about 25 minutes a week for a show coat, and if you cut the coat (for a pet) then i requires next to no grooming)
Well i hope your eyes arent squre from reading this, let me know if theres anything else i can tell you.
always glad to help,
CLAIRE

i had no idea Bailey looked like a havanese, his snout looks a little short but other than that from what i can see he looks pretty close to the standard, he's adorable,
i love the pic when he's runing towards the casmer, he looks like a ghost, glowing eyes and all!
lol
