This post is to those who feed Nutro Natural Choice dog food. Bailey has always been on their puppy food and in about a month and a half, he'll be "a big boy" and moving on to adult food. (sad, sad mommy and daddy) The vet told me I can start now in moving him into the adult food ... but SSSSSLOWLY.

Well, he's done so well with the Nutro product and it's a really great product, so I'm planning on sticking with it.... I just don't know which one to try:
Nutro has two adult formulas (Natural Choice) that I was looking at:
1) For "active adults" - Lamb and Rice Formula (which is what he had as a puppy), or
2) For "active adults" - Chicken Meal, Rice & Oatmeal Formula. The website for this says that it's "unique because it provides superior nutrition and taste while being highly digestible and easy on the stomach."

Does anyone feed your dog Natural Choice (adult formula) ... and if so, which one? and does anyone have any thoughts/advice about either formula?

I would say that if Bailey is an active little guy than go with the Active Adult formula.
As far as the brand of NUTRO goes (and i dont want to start another brawl)i would really recomend it.
a tip for evaluating food that usually works is that the more compact and harder to break the kibble is the higher in nutrition it is.
I have fed this brand before and it has been with my 'big goldens' for all of there 14 years, and there still active, you wouldnt even know that they're 14 and 15.
some one was talkiing before about rotating (again i dont want to start a brawl) but i rotate sheerly for the dog, since its the same brand, the differant "flavors" shouldnt upset there stomachs UNLESS their stomachs are sensitive. There is also dog treats and tartar reducing bones by NUTRO, its all the big NUTRO family

I have fed Cameron Nutro Natural Choice since she was a puppy- we fed her puppy formula lamb and rice until she was about 8 months- then we switched over to adult lamb in rice. I would highly recommend it- good food in my opinion.

Thanks for the info....

Bailey already is on the Nutro... I was just more curious if anyone has used the Oatmeal formula. I went to the local petstore and they didn't have it (never even heard of it!), so if I wanted to put Bailey on it then I'd have to special order it... which is no big deal, as long as it's a good formula.

I suppose I'll just try the Lamb&Rice adult, since that's the same "flavor" as he's had as a puppy.

I just switched Precious over to the Nutro Natural Choice (puppy) and I'm very happy with it. I've had no problems in switching her over.

Since dogs prefer eating the same thing, unlike people who like variety, you may want to stay with the flavor that Bailey is used to. But, you said that already. This is my thought, I too am thinking that the Chicken meal, rice and oatmeal formula will be better for my dogs particular needs (when we get to that stage). Precious tends to get dry skin and she has a sensitive stomach. I guess it all depends on what Baileys needs are.

Good luck and keep us posted. I'm very interested to hear what you decide and what your results are.

Precious's Mommy,

I feed my little Toy Poodle Nutro Oatmeal, mixed with a little wet Nutro Oatmeal, and I can barely keep her away from the bowl as I set it down! Even after her eating it for about a year, she still goes crazy! Hope that helps! Her coat hasnt been shinier!

i've been feeding Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice to my two adult chihuahuas for about a year. They really LOVED the small bite version, which the three nearest pet stores no longer carried for some reason, so I've been buying the regular-sized bites. Having used this product, their coats have greatly improved.

Unfortunately, they've stopped loving it. This just happened about two months ago. So since I was almost out, I decided to wean them onto another brand. My pet store highly recommended a new brand called LOTUS, which is supposed to be human-grade so even you could eat it. It's also supposed to have a higher meat/protein content than Natural Choice. They also said that because it had a higher protein content, they'd eat less.

Well, you know what? I used to feed them two handfuls each of Natural Choice and they'd eat it all up. Now, with LOTUS, I feed them one handful and it's enough, and they can't eat it fast enough. Oh, because they're eating less, their stool is smaller. Yippeee!

Lotus is more expensive than Natural Choice, and quite frankly, had they not decided to boycott it, I would still be feeding them Natural Choice. I think Natural Choice is a good product. Just looking at my dog's coats is evidence of it. However, my mom said that with her dogs she just added a tsp. of olive oil a few times of week and her dogs' coats became beautiful. I also met this woman at the dog park whose dog had the most GORGEOUS coat and she said that she added olive oil to her dog's food.

Anyway, that was a bit off subject, but I just wanted to say that I used the lamb and rice for a year and it worked great for me until doggies became finicky.

Thanks Peteroxy for the info! I think I'm going to get both and mix it... LOL.. how is THAT for making a choice! hehe.... that way if I have to special order the one with the Oatmeal every time it possibly could lead to an issue down the road if they can't get it for me and then I'd have to change him "cold turkey"

I agree about Nutro and the coat! Bailey has always had a shiny coat and so I think Nutro agrees with him. KNOWING HIM THO, he may pull the "I'm PINICKY and spoiled" move too! hehe.
