I just ADORE my Maltipoo but he REALLY growls when he doesn't want lifted and when my Whippet or boyfriend touches him, he shakes, growls and has bitten my boyfriend THREE times, now. Anyybody have any clue what this is about? I am careful about not showing favourtism to the boyfriend and Whippet and purposely talk to and pet the Maltipoo more so he doesn't feel left out but that's not helping, either. I don't know what to do and am at my whits end! I slapped his behind and hollered "No!" when he bit Gary and it didn't even seem to phase him. What's going on and why is he so ticked?

I think he is growing into an alpha male, that thinks he should be the ruler of the house. Just keep telling him NO when he bites. If you cave in to what he wants you to do he will be the terror of the house. Next thing you know he will have claimed your favorite chair and will growl or bite anyone that tries to sit there. Keep being firm with him. He needs to learn who the bosses are. Give him plenty of chew toys also. If he wants to chew on your hands say no and offer him one of his chewable things.

IF he's a rescue dog then mabye the bitting has something to do with his past.
98% of dog who bite bite for 2 reasons, out of fear and out of braveness. He might be trying to stand up to your boyfrined and say"your not going to take this women away from me, im the man of the house" or he jsut might be afriad of men.
If he doesnt like to be picked up all the more reason to pick him up.
When I go to a shelter to help a family pick out a dog after im done saying hello the first thing i do is pick him up(if he or she is samll enough) if he doesnt like it i put him down- Then i do it again
when i rescued a malinos from Detroit she didnt like being grabbed in the butt.
Well if she was going to be around thousands of people for the Superdogs show then she'd have to adjust and i would literally stalk her and sneak up on her and grab her and she would jump 20 feet in the air.
after a week of me doing this she got used to it.
all dogs will adjust
jsut be consistent

yeah, when my dog was little, he HATED being picked up, so I picked him up all teh time anyhow. He would bite, and squirm, and growl, so my sisters all chickened out, now I am one of his favorite people adn one of teh people he obeys AND he will let people (depending who) pick him up! yea!
