My 2 year old cat has been screaming out horribly for hours and constantly growling and hissing, there are no other cats around it, I cannot get ahold of ANY vet in my area, and don't know what to do. The cat just ate another can of food and drank water, but is still growling, hissing, and screaming out (in pain?) at some "imaginary" thing. My only guess is perhaps it has a brain or an internal problem. Has anyone ever had this happen or know what it might be? The "24 hour emergency" vets in my area do not even answer their phones.

is this a male cat? Unneutered? It's possible there are other male cats around you just can't see.

Or...has your cat been using the litterbox okay? Everything working like it should be?

You really need to find a vet. There could be somekind of internal injury your unaware of.

Sounds like spring has arrived at your house...mating time!! LOL!! The hissing part and growling, well, just may be he smells a prior cat or one around the house outside spraying....like the posters above, if all his parts are working well, and he's eating, and NOT neutered, well, he's telling ya the flowers are in bloom!

Thanks for your replies, I took her to the vet the following morning, they kept her there for a day diagnosing it as an intestinal problem, had her on IV's and she is much better now and back home. I have to give her Metronidazole and Albon Suspension medicines once a day. She still is occasionally growling and hissing, so that must be that she senses other cats around.
