Does anyone else have a cat who does this? Unfortunately I have caught my kitty spraying (he'e neutered) a few times and I am trying to stop it using Feliway and Simple Solution. I have noticed him lately going to a wall and acting like he is spraying, his tail twitches for a second or two, but there's no urine. Should I try and break him of this habit or should I just be thankful that he isn't actually spraying?

My cat does this ALL the time. I don't care as long as nothing comes out!

I would stop him. Apparently he's still wanting to do it, but can't. If he ever does get it to come out. Your gonna have trouble. Sounds to me like a BAD habbit.

I think it's fairly normal. My male cats have been doing that for five years (they're fixed). Nothing ever comes out. My sister's male cat also does it (the tail twitch).

They're just trying to do what is natural to them. I don't know that you could stop them from trying to do it. It's simply a terratorial thing.

One question, does anything ever come out of your cat? You say you caught him spraying... did you catch him trying to spray, or was urine actually coming out?

Like I said, my males do it all the time and nothing comes out - ever. If nothing has come out of your cat, I personally wouldn't worry too much. If he has urine coming out, I would ask a vet.

Thanks for the input. I did catch him once with urine coming out. I did take him to the vet to rule out medical problems and he's fine, it's behavioural. I don't mind him doing it as long as there's no urine. The one time he did spray he was quite stressed due to the new kitten, but we have been working on helping him be less stressed and it seems to be helping but he still occasionally does the "phantom" spraying.
