I have an 8 month old kitten. I have had him since he was 7 weeks old. He was found at a friends house and was starved. I have had him spayed and he is an indoor only cat. About 2 weeks ago he started spending a lot of time in the window staring outside. I don't mind that except that he really doesn't go anywhere else. He has also started meowing a lot more. He is home alone all day but it has always been that way and he has been fine. Does my cat just want to be outside? Is he lonely? I can't figure out what is going on. He doesn't lay with me anymore like he used to. I can't think of anything that has changed that would stress him out. Does anyone have any advice? I love him so much nad want him to be happy.

Hi,

I can't tell from your post how serious your cat's behavior is, or if you think he might be sick or is just restless. If you think there is a medical reason, or if he seems to have a sudden decrease in energy I'd get him to the vet.

He may be getting to be more independant and less cuddly as he gets older. A lot of cats develop that sort of personality, but are perfectly happy.

If there are female cats in your neighborhood he could be smelling them, even though he is fixed. This maybe too simple and explination, but worth a thought: I'm not sure where you are, but in my area spring has arrived! And with it: birds, squirrles, insects and children outside. My cat too has spent more time in the windows meowing and making chirping noices at all the exciting stuff to look at. He probably wants to get out there and chase things, but thats not safe (or allowed) in my apartment complex.

I don't really think he is sick. I just think he is unhappy. I won't let him out. It is spring here and there are birds and other cats around. I just want him to have a happy life. I doubt getting another cat is an option. maybe he is just growing up. he still plays and is active so I doubt he is sick.

Maybe he is just bored? I think MaryNH had a good suggestion on possibly getting him a companion.

Oops, I missed that..guess I should have read the entire thread before posting.

Maybe you can get him a cat tree or some new toys to keep him occupied?
