People can get Parvo Virus. I had a blood test and found I had had it! I was shocked!

I had lost over a stone last year and thought it was after a flu virus. But now realise not.

Does anyone know if any other consequences can occur as a result of this virus?

My cat is well. I always wash hands- my dermititis attests to that.

We have just acquired a dog and she is regularly vaccinated too.

Can anyone shed any light on this topic?

I did some research after reading your post. Apparently the parvovirus that infects humans is not the same one that infects animals. They are different strains. Over 50% of people are epxosed to the human form (parvovirus B19) at some point in their life. Most people don't get any symptoms from it. The most common disease it causes is Fiths disease.

You may have been exposed last year or 20 years ago. A blood test probably wouldn't be able to tell you when you were exposed. You don't actually have the virus in your body, what the tests check for is antibody to the virus. Most viruses clear your system within a few weeks after you get better.

You can't transmit it to your animals and they can't transmit it to you, so you should all be okay.

Look at the CDC site if you want more information:
