My little kitty boy Hunter, makes noise when he sleeps, like a clogged up noise...
Also when he runs around the house he will stop and pant for a few seconds and then get back to it.
We were trying to figure out what was up. As it hasn't been too hot in the house and all that, but maybe he was hot.
Asthma came to mind and I wanted to know if anyone has an asthmatic cat, I am going to check out some other sites to see what I can find. Take him to the vet if it persits or gets any worse.

Yes, cats can have asthma. My vet thinks Tiddy might have mild asthma....she did'nt think it was serious enough at this point to have him tested or put on meds though.

Do a search for asthma or open mouth breathing in cats and you will find a lot of info online.

Hi

My kitty has severe asthma - poor thing. Her asthma is triggered by chemical smalls - perfume, bleach, nail polish remover, etc. She starts by coughing which is when we know she's starting to have breathing problems. Then it goes into a wheeze which could last for up to 3 weeks. She won't eat, drinks very little, won't move. I can oly imagine what it must feel like. HOWEVER, it is treatable with broncodialator pills and predinose on a regualr basis until the asthma is under control and then hopefully the cat can be weaned off. unfortunantly, my kitty is on a permanat dose of bot pills twice a week. anything less and the attacks start up again.

She has been attack free for almost 3 years now.

I would check for signs of coughing. As with humans, coughing is a sure symptom. Attacks don't last for a few minutes then go away, they last for a while. My though is your kitty could have a blockage in his nose (or narrow passageways) which causes the noise.

Good luck

I was reading some articles about asthma and read that vets have pulled ribbons and all kinds of other things out of nasal passages. They create a blockage and mimic some of the signs of asthma. I don't know how cats get them in there, but I've learned never to underestimate what cats can do!
