Hi again. I have a question that I hope someone else may have knowledge about.

I have never seen or heard about this before, which is why I'm a little worried. I called the vet and she just gave me speculation and told me to call back in a few days.

The deal: Two days ago I noticed that my cat's one pupil is larger than the other. His right pupil is a smaller slit than the left one, which is rounder. Yesterday his third eyelid was half-way over the eye with the smaller pupil. It was a little runny so I cleaned it. Today his third lid was back in so I figured whatever was irritating his eye was gone, but the pupil is still smaller than his other one???

He's also been scratching at his left ear and shaking his head a little. Every once in a while his ears get a little dirty, I think he has slight allergies. I clean them and then they're fine.

Could the ear and eye thing be related? This has never happened before. Anyone have an experience like this?

Thanks!!!

Is it just the pupil that is smaller, or is the eye itself smaller?

Do you know any optomologists for humans? MAybe you could call in and ask what's going on, they will have better knowledge on the workings of eyes than vets would.

Just a crazy idea!

Thanks, that's a good idea.

Fleafly: It's just the pupil that is smaller, and his third eyelid is out again.

Last night there was some yellowish crusting on that ear, and he's still shaking his head. I guess the two may be related, this has just never happened before with his eye.

I made an appointment at the vet for tomorrow morning so I'll post on how it went.

That's what I'm guessing. The eye thing just worries me. Especially about the different sized pupils.

Thanks for responding.

Hello. I would take your kitty to the vet. The fact that he has watery eyes and a dilated pupil means something is not right. It could be a lot of things: a simple eye infection, nerve damage, a tumor behind the eye, or glaucoma. Keep us posted.

Thanks you guys, I'll let you know how it goes. He seems fine so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's just an ear infection.

Well, the vet said he thinks it's an ear infection or virus but can't give a definite diagnosis because the pupil thing could be for a number of reasons.

I have to put ointment drops in my baby's ears twice a day for a week, and pill him everyday for a month. Should be fun.

If he's not better by the end of March I have to take him back, so I pray it's just an infection or even something simpler.

Yahdah - Thanks for the link, very interesting.

Chessmind - You were right on target. Also, I'm still planning on calling about the fish oil, I've just been a little distracted. I read somewhere that it might cause constipation, which my cat has had in the past, so I might actually have to stop giving it to him anyway. Oh, and I've started to convert them from the Iams to the Nutro Natural food, so I do hope it's a better product.

Hello. Don't worry about the fish oil. Handsome just loves the flax seed oil. If he had his way he would have a cup a day of that oil. I'm sure your kitties will do much better on Nutro cat food. I hope your kitty feels better soon. Keep us posted.
