Hi everyone,

I just bought the sweetest persian kitten. She is almost 5 months old now.

My question is the following.. when I brought her home the first day (last Monday), everything was ok. (or I just didn't notice than). However, she is always now eminating some mumur sound from her body. Meaning she is always making noice... like a suttle diesal engine. If I hold her, I feel the vibrations. I know where she is by listening for her sound. The sounds stop once in a while when she moves in a akward position, possibly she is holding her breath than.

Is this a normal sound for a kitten? Shouldn't they be quite? Should I get this checked out?

Thanks
Ferhan

Hello. Welcome to the site. I would take your kitty to the vet as soon as possible. You are correct in thinking that something is not right. It could be something simple or more serious. I would like to hear what the vet tells you is the cause of this. Please keep us posted.

It sounds like it could just be she has a very deep purr and is a very happy cat!
I have a cat that snores because he had flu when he was a stray, unfortunately it carried on for a long time whilst he was homeless and was only treated when we took him in. Generally I wouldn't worry unless your cat is lethargic, not eating, has a discharge from her nose or has a cough.
It certainly doesn't sound like a problem so unless you are particularly concerned I would just keep an eye on it and see how she goes.

The reason I think the cat should be examined by a vet is that one of my foster kittens made that same sound that Ferhan described. It turned out she had fluid in her lungs. She ate well, went to the bathroom, played and seemed generally healthy. It turned out to be quite serious.

Now, it would be very funny if Ferhan's cat was just purring. Lol. However, I have yet to see a cat that 'purrs all the time, except when moving into an awkward postion.'

I think it's better to be safe than sorry. If it were my cat I would have the vet listen to the sounds and see what they make of it. An exam by a vet will be between $25-$45.
