Hi,
I have a dearly loved 6 year old male Main Coon cat name Twinkie. I have taken him to the vet sevaral times for his aggression. He seems to get ticked off about nothing at all, like Dr Jekylcat to My Hydecat suddenly he becomes a snarreling biting scratching attacking mad cat.
My vet first told him to ignore the bad behavior. Twinkie's urine and blood were tested and it seems everything is perfect. I tried to ignore the badcat behavior but he is tearing up people and his cat friends.
The vet now says it could be a brain tumor because Twinkie is obsessed with water.
He gave my male cat a shot of depo provera and said it was the last hope, but it can cause other health issues, like cancer.
The Depo is working, no doubt about that, he has transformed into a female acting cat, and he is gentel and docile, but the shot is going to run out. I am worried about continuing the treatment. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello. Welcome to the site. I would get a second opinion from another vet. I didn't know they gave cats D.P. I thought that was just for human females to not get pregnant. I guess it has other uses. As for your cat's possible brain tumor, how did the vet come to this conclusion? Was an x-ray taken of his head?

Hi,
Thank you for responding.
I am very happy to report that the depo shot has really kicked in and we dont have to put Twinkie to sleep. The last attack was the worse yet. My 18 year old daughter accidentally let him out. Its not safe for a cat outside where we live so she picked him to bring him back in (as she does at least 6 times a day-its sorta a game for the kitties to all run outside)and he attacked her hard. She had on mittens and he actually tore one right off. He grabbed onto her bitting deep in her hand and sratched her half an inch deep from her wrist to her elbow. She had to strike him repeatedly with her phone to get his jaws loose. She bled so much she actually called someone for help because she was home alone. They had to go get a blanket and toss it over him, he was screaming and hissing the entire time. His pupils were dilated and he looked and smelled crazy. He gets a certain really stinky oder when he gets mad or scared.
Twinkie really is a neat cat 95% of the time. He likes to play fetch and fallow me around while I do chores. He knows our schedules. He is loving and clever. He would never hurt any mouse, rabbit or guinea pig, he actually cuddles with them!
I found a few online articles about depo for cats, here is one http://www.cah.com/library/behavtx.html
This web site has depo for Territorial/Sexual behavior problems. Twinkie jumps on us and stalks the females in the household.(Well, he used to-not on the depo shot..) He pounces hard, almost enough to knock us over and urinates on males clothing if its left on the ground(only males leave clothes on the floor, hmmm)
My vets suggested it was a brain tumor because he claims he has seen it often that a crazy overly aggresive(who changes) is dissected he has often heard the cat had a tumor because the brain controls seratonin and seratonin has alot to do with controling emotions and behavior. He could be wrong, but I think he knows from experience.
I dont really think I can afford an cat scan for my cat, but I guess I can afford the depo if it keeps working this well. Its sad though because his personality has changed too.
Another vet suggested Phenobarbitol. I really dont want him on anti depressants, he is not depressed.
Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Hello. I don't really have any advice for you, as you are getting advice from your vet. I'm sorry your daughter was hurt. I hope the cat was okay after your daughter was beating him with the phone to try and get him off.

The only thing I can share with you is that one of the Maine Coon cats from a rescue group that I volunteer with, acted a bit like this as well. I always thought that this particular cat was in some kind of pain somewhere, but not one vet could find anything wrong with him. He was adopted out, but after many months of the people trying to work with him, they took him back. He was basically a big grump. He hissed, swatted and didn't want anyone to pet him. He was always good with me, but he had his moments. He's gone to a good home and the people just accept him as his grumpy self. But, I still think he has some kind of pain in his body that no one has been able to diagnose. It's too bad, because that's not a fun way to live (to be in pain). Poor kitty.

Cats can also be given valium and several other drugs to calm them down. Have you tried natural remedies like rescue remedies? They may or may not help.

Chessmind:
The people who adopted the cat could contact a pet communicator if they really wanted to find out if the cat is in pain or not. Some people may not believe in them but I do. I think animals communicate telepathically and some people can tap into that. Anyway, I have a long story about why I think they can talk to cats, but I will leave it at that.

Thanks Fleafly. I will certainly mention it to the rescue group and they can then contact that family and let them know.

p.s. I posted some pictures of Handsome. I think he looks a lot like your Gary. What do you think?

Where can I locate an animal communicator? I have checked the phone book.
I know he is not in any pain. He is fine. A stray cat came to the door today and instead of going crazy he just backed off like he was scared.
He was not seriously hurt from my daughters retaliation with the phone, he was eating crunchy cat food that night.

That picture should be in a magazine or a calendar! That is so cute. So, they are friends? Thanks for sharing your pic.

Thank you for the compliment on my picture. I love that picture. Is is not posed, Twinkie loves guinea pigs and rabbits and gerbils and mice. He was raised around them. He licks them and loves them.
I do not trust my other cats...
Twinkie is such a cute Main Coon. Its hard to believe that smiling cat face can turn as mean as a rabid dog huh?

This is the website for the communicator that I used:
http://www.ispeakanimal.com

She is a very nice lady and does a wonderful job.

Some of them have specializations, she is good at locating lost cats, but may be able to help you as well. Most communicators can work over the phone. It is a little expensive, but I think worth every penny.

You have to understand that there is a difference between a communicator and a psychic (Sonia Fitzpatrick is actually a communicator). Communicators talk to the animal they can't tell the future. I tried both when Loki was lost and there was a huge difference.

If you want me to tell you the story about how I know they work, I will be more than happy to.
