Hi all: I just wanted to send out some information about feline leukemia. I had a cat that died of the disease not long ago, he was only nine months old. The symptoms were lack of appetite, vomitting, constipation and very passive behaviour. He also kept retreating to dark empty places like the closet, which I fiqured out later is b/c he was dying. Please take note of these, b/c it concerned me to have seen a few posts where owners had these exact symptoms and had no idea what it was. I had to take my guy to three different vets before he was finally diagnosed, so please be leary. One VERY important thing you need to look out for, that alot of people overlook, is a nose that has gone from a healthy pink to a pale yellow color. This usually indicates it is something fatal. I'd also like to add that if you should discover your beloved cat has the disease, I encourage you to have them put down right away. Of course this is only personal opinion. I waited way too long hoping my guy would improve, but he just got worse and ended up suffering a great deal. I wish I would have spared him of the pain earlier. There is no known cure for it...there is chemo of sorts, but I was told it wouldn't be very effective. Well that's all I have to say. I hope this will be helpful. Have a great new year everyone! One thing I forgot to add; if your cat's nose isn't pink, you can check the roof of their mouth for any change in color. IP: Logged |

Some cats make a recovery after having feline lukemia and having it treated with chemo this is providing it is caught as early as possible. Providing the animals is in no pain and is still eating and drinking normal and has had treatment i dont see no need to have the animal destroyed. 1 of my friends cats had it and made a full recovery there vet told them it depends on how well the cats immune system copes and how soon it is caught IP: Logged |
