We adopted our new kitty Oliver from a shelter where he was brought in as a stray so they knew nothing about him. I think he may be a Norwegian Forest cat as he looks like the ones I have seen in photos. Can anyone tell from the photos? I'm just curious, that's all. I hope the photo link works!

There's a strong possibility that he is. I have a Norwegian Forest Cat as well except that he is beige.

Oliver could also be a Maine Coon. But judging by his size and build he is most likely a Norweigan forest cat.

My cats name is Willy, he weighs 22lbs which is as the vet told me a perfect weight for the type of cat he is.

I have no idea, but he sure is good looking! Lol. It's nice to see pics of other people's cats. I would love to see a pic. of your 22 pound Willy, Katerina. He sounds super cute too.

I will try and post some pictures when I'm at my brothers next week. I can't because I don't have a digital camera or a scanner or anything. But my brother e-mailed me pictures of his cats so he must have a way of doing it

Thanks for the input, we think he's beautiful too! I was amazed to find him as a stray at a shelter. Katerina, I've heard that Norwegians can grow until they are 5 years old--did you find this with yours? They estimated that Oliver is only 2 and right now he weighs about 13 pounds...I can't imagine another 9 pounds on him! I would love to see a picture of Willy.
ps/ Where did you acquire him? I live in Hamilton and was curious as you are from TO.

I couldn't really tell you How long they grow for since I didn't adopt Willy until he was 5yrs old.

I got him through the classifieds in the newspaper. The family had to give him up for adoption since one their children was allergic to cats.

I chose him over a short haire Tabby.

I don't know what he is but I do know he's a beauty! We have a half persian half something else cat (some times we thinkhe's half donkey as he's so stubborn)LOL

Fleabag is his name, he was a kitty full of leas when we got him and my sister had 3degree sunburn on over 3/4 of her body. She bottle fed him and now he's a 25-27lb hunk of cat. He's lazy as all get out...fuzzy like yours, yet 4 diffrent colors...

I have a foster at home that looks just like him! I never thought Norwegian forest cat. I looked up some pictures and they do resemble each other alot!

This isnt a good picture of him because he had to have his fur shaved when he first got to us because he was so severly matted.

What a handsome kitty. Congrats on your new addition!

A 22, 25 POUND CAT!!!! MY GOD, are mine going to get that big? Mine are DSH, about 6 months old, and one weighs 4 1/2 pounds and the other weighs about 6 pounds now.

My pet carrier only holds up to 25 pounds!!

It all depends on the type of cat, the exercise it gets and type of food it eats.

It's typical for a Male Norweigan forest cat to weigh 20-25lbs.

But other cats I've owned have weighed on average 10lbs or less.

Sorry to contradict you shyShadowCat1990 but Norweigan Forest cats come in many different colours. The typical colouring is that of Dolly's Oliver. With the Taby like colouring on the top and white underneath

Dolly I found this website that talks about Norweigan Forest Cats http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/articles/norwegian.html

It appears that they do not hit full growth until they are 5yrs old.

There is also some cute pictures.

clwasilko42: DSH do not normally get that big. I had one that was 28 pounds, but he was really really fat. Most of them will be between 6 and 14 pounds when full grown.
