I have a 5 month old male kitten that I got when he was about 9 weeks. He is normally a very quiet and loving kitten. He has not been neutered yet because my vet told me he needed to be about 6 months old. The past week or so he has been meowing a lot. He standins in the kitchen and meows. If I walk into the room he stops. I bring him in the other room with me but he goes back intothe kitchen and meows. He has plenty of food. I know we have a female cat in the neighborhood and I don't know if she has been spayed or not. She has been wondering the near our yard quite a bit. Is my cat reacting to that female cat being in heat? My cat is strictly idoors and doesn't even try to get out.
My cat also seems to have pretty smelly gas. I have been trying to slowly ween him off of wet food. He has always had wet and dry food in his diet. The smelly gas started about 3 weeks ago. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

My cats were all neutered at 5 months as is the general custom in the UK. I gather they are sexually active around six months but if you cat isn't 'caterwalling' (that hideous howling sound they make like a crying baby) I don't think that is a problem.

If the litter tray is not cleaned after every visit your cat makes he might be meowing for you to change it for him. Also you might just find you have a noisy cat, I have one who wanders around mewing all day long, sometimes she wants something other times she doesn't.

If your cat is getting plenty of food but still seems hungry he may well have worms, get the vet to give him a worming tablet and at the same time check him over. My kitten came to me as a stray and had terrible wind for the first few months, even after we had him wormed because the worms had done damage to his intestines. He is fine now but we make sure he has a good balance of dry food and wet food and is wormed regularly every 3 months.
It is also possible your cat has a bit of irritable bowel syndrome so make sure he gets a high fibre cat food, this will definitely help his smelliness!
Other than that I can't see why the cat is meowing, I hope this helps at least a little bit.

It depends on the vet, but most of them will spay/neuter as long as the animal is over 3 lbs.

About the crying and the gas, I would have him checked for worms. Sounds like he might have worms or something else that is causing discomfort and the gas.
