That is really hard to say without seeing the sores. The first thing that comes to mind is ringworm, they usually get that on the nose if it is on the face though. Check out some pictures of ringworm on the internet and see if it looks familiar.

hey MyMaxwell. my kitten has the same problem. She gets little white sores on one side of her mouth. they may look like little pimples, but theyre not. Felines can get herpes! but dont worry, you cant get it from them. Feline herpes is only contagious through felines and human herpes is only contagious through humans. get her to a vet soon because there are chances it could spread to her eye and give her conjunctivitis, which is serious. some cats have had an eye surgically taken out because of how bad the infection got in it. Herpes in cats is very commom, so dont worry about it. Especially if your cat was once a stray. I still havent taken my cat to the vet. I cant afford it at the moment. But Good luck with your kitty!

I took the following quote from the link above.

Plastic Bowls
Although plastic bowls are generally sturdy, they have a couple of downsides. First, many cats have an allergy to plastic, and develop a skin condition on their chins, resembling acne. Second, plastc tends to nick and scratch, and those tiny fissures become a breeding ground for germs. My recommendation is to avoid plastic if at all possible.

The Safest Materials for Cat Food Dishes
Stainless steel is unbreakable, sturdy, dishwasher-safe, and harmless to cats. It (along with ceramic bowls) is recommended by most veterinarians. Another good choice is ceramic, provided it uses a lead-free glaze. (Most do, nowadays.)

A friend of mine's cats had the acne like sores on one of her cats. When I told her about the plastic dish allegies she changed to ceramic and the problem cleared up very quickly.

Hopefully this helps.

Great research. I never realized they could be allergic to their food dishes.
