she's 5 months old now. she licks and licks and licks. my legs, my fingers, my arm, my neck, etc. sometimes it is only once or twice, but the majority of the time it is way more than that. i have to make her stop sometimes b/c she will just continue to lick. it's not that big of a problem, except when i sleep. i know i could just shut her out of the room, but i hate to do that. about once, sometimes twice a night she starts licking me and won't stop. i go so far as to put my whole body under the covers (including my head b/c she licks my face too) to avoid her licking me. when i do this, she starts trying to get under the covers with her head or paws, it is the funniest thing, however i can't sleet when this happens and it keeps me up for about 20 mins a night until she gives up. i have no clue why she does this, but I become impatient when i'm trying to sleep. is this common? has it happened to anybody else? if so, is there anything i can do to make her stop licking so much?

This is very common, I think. One of our cats likes to lick - unfortunately, she will lick the EXACT same place until you make her stop. I used to wake up with raspberries on my arms from her licking in one spot for too long.

When we are awake and holding her and she starts to lick, I move her head away and tell her no. Or I blow gently in her face. Eventually she stops.

My husband no longer allows the cats in our bedroom, so I can't help with the nighttime problem. It's sort of his cat-free zone, just like the cats need a dog-free zone. Sometimes I don't know whether to categorize my husband with the children, or with the pets.

I see my kitten licking me the same as she cleans herself. At least I think that the kitty licks you because she/he likes you. Mine starts to lick me when I put my head in front of her or about dawn, she will do that trying to wake me up.

Yes, I agree that they are just cleaning you like they clean themselves and other cats. I read once that cats don't think of themselves as little people - they think of you as a big cat!

My sister's newest kitten cleans their golden retriever. The vet said she needs to make him stop because the kitty is going to get hairballs that way. I think they clean everybody they love.

I don't mind the licking, except from the one cat who licks ONE spot until you bleed. Otherwise, I actually like their rough little tongues.
