hi again, i got this street cat of the street about a month ago, now every 2 or 3 days he starts wineing by the door or the window, it's really cold outside, so I do not see why it wants to go outside.
I then put a collar on him and took him out side, and he just stood outside.

Do you think it is safe to let him run around outside and he will return?

thanks

Have you looked outside for any female cats that might be hanging around your house? He might be crying because her scent is around. I dont like the idea of putting my cats outside at all because of the fact that they can get fleas or get hurt. If you do decide that you want to let him outside you can try buying a collar and lead for him to walk around with you. He might like it. Do you live in an area with alot of traffic? Also do you know if there are dogs running around the area you live in?
Hope this helps

I don't think its safe for cats to be out almost anywhere. There are 1) cars, 2) dogs, 3) mean people, 4)other cats to fight with, 5)and they could get lost.

It depends on the whine that he is making. My cats sit by the window and make noises when they see birds. They have a bird meow. It may be that there are females in heat outside. Is he fixed? If he really wants to go outside you can get a harness and a lead and take him outside. That's the only way my cats go outside. They don't like it at first, but if you let him wear the harness around the house and then add the leash he will get used to it. I saw a cat at Petsmart once that walked on a leash just like a dog. My neighbor has a little kitten and she got a harness for her and ties her up outside while she gardens. She even takes her for walks up the street, it's really cute. You will probably get some strange looks from people if you have a cat on a leash, but I think their safety is more important than what other people think.

Well it is obviously used to a life outdoors, and you've removed him from that. Not saying it's not for the better, but it sounds to me like the cat may just be longing to be outside.

Neutering should help...intact cats instinctively roam looking for a mate. If after that, he still seems to want to go outdoors I would either take him out on a leash (he will get used to it over time) or build him an enclosure so that he can enjoy the outdoors safely. Last year I took in 2 strays that were dumped on a farm...they lived outdoors only for sometime until I went and got them. At first the female would sit in the window and whine and cry or try to run out the door every time it was opened as if she wanted to leave...this went on for about a month and then I had her spayed. Both cats have lived happily indoors for over a year now and have no interest in leaving. My advice is to get your male neutered and take it from there. Good luck.
