I have two, 9 month old kittens. I am very interested in getting health insurance for them, something that would cover regular vet visits and emergencies.

My last kitty died when he was 12 weeks old. I had him for 6 weeks and in that time frame the vet bills were over $3000 with all the meds and hospitalizations. Needless to say I am still paying on it.

I would really appreciate any suggestions from anyone. Again, I am looking for BOTH regular vet visits and emergencies. Thanks!

you can find many pet health insurance companies online...I think petfinder.org has some listed on thier site to.

do your homework though...some of them don't pay for regular exams/vaccines - only emergencies. And a lot of don't pay for anything that is considered genetic.

Last year my dog had a surgery that ended up being about $1100...none of it would have been covered cause it was considered to be genetically related. So I would not only have been paying insurance premiums for an insurance that was useless but I would also have been paying the vet. Personally...I keep a savings account for vet purposes - I normally don't spend at the vet's what the insurance for 4 animals would cost me per year. And I'd rather have the interest than giving it to some executive somewhere.

But if you have young healthy animals you need to figure out how much you'd be paying in premiums a year versus how much you'd be spending at the vets.
