me and my mom found out that my cat, Zoe, had asthma, and the vet said that we should put her on steriods(sp?) but we didnt really have the money plus they are not very good for animals....so sence then shes been fine....just thowing up a little more but not bad and shes a little under weight....anyway...will she still live as long as a regular cat or because of the asthma....she will not...?!?!?!?

Your cat can live as long as any other cat with proper treatment. I don't know how old your cat is but maybe he'll grow out of it. I would follow the vets advice and use the steroids. I would make sure no one smokes in the house and get a dust free litter to help him out also. Without the steroids though your cat could have a bad attack and not be able to breathe. It is ok, they use the same type steroids for cats that they use for humans - different doses, deliveries and all.

Hi

My cat also has asthma and has been on steriods for 7 years. She has been doing fine. She has had only a few attacks since putting her on steriods and let me tell you its not pretty. The attacks were brought on by strong smelling scents (perfume, dtergents, etc)

Although Nickle is on steroid pills, you can also get steroids inhalers for cat. Talk with your vet about your financial situation and he/she maybe to suggest something that will fit into your budget and help your cat.

Good luck.

No she has been fine. Our dog was also on prednisone (steroids) and was fine. IT is supposed to do something to your liver - don't know off the top of my head - but she has been doing great thus far. however, she has gone from having one full pill every other day to having 2 ( or maybe even one now) once a week. We break the pill into halves. I know she will never be weaned off them completly but her body has adjusted to having small amounts to the point where she doesn't have attacks anymore. It is very possible that she may have outgrown her asthma but my mother isn't willing to take a chance to find out as the next one my kill her seeing she is 10 and her attacks in the past have lasted up to 3 weeks. Poor thing.Hope this helps.
