My cat Samanatha (15 years old) was diagnoised last month with kidney failure. She spent a week in the vets office on IV fluids. When we brought her home, her kidney level was 3.9 and we continued to administer fluids each day. Her condition improved greatly. She was active, eating very well, using the litter box, going in and out of the windows and being her (almost) normal self. She had one major set back last week when I noticed her eyes were dialated and immediately brought her to the vet. He diagnoised her with hypertension and gave me a perscription for blood pressure medication. The hypertension caused her retena's to detach but after 4 days of the medicine, she was able to see again. Each day the vision is improving, which is encouraging, to say the least. While at the vets office, another chemistry work up was done to see where her kidney levels were at. The bad news was she was up to a level 12. BUT she has not slowed down one bit to this day. She is active, eating well, going up and down the stairs and playing. I am curious to know if there are other cats out there who have the same kidney levels (12) and maintained an active life and for how long. Samantha is my baby girl and I want to prepare for the future. The Doctor seems surprised she is doing so well at this level and I'd like some encouragement from others who are in the same situation. Thanks.
