We have a 6 year old mix (basset and fox hound) We decided to have her spayed because she would have full maternities, giving milk and all, eventhough she is still a virgin. On Jan 14 she was spayed, and for the last few days shes been bleeding, just a few drops mostly cloughts, from her vagina. We took her to the vet, he took an xray, recommended more xrays, and an exploratory cirgury because he says he saw stones, and an oversized spleen.
What do you guys think?
caroll I would be most interested in any replies to this situation. I have a female vizsla who will be 9 years old in March. She's had 2 litters of puppies and her last litter was 2 1/2 years ago. She was spayed several months after this last litter was born (over 2 years ago). Several days ago, a couple of my males started sniffing her and behaving as if she were going into season. Then I started seeing some drops of light blood on my kitchen floor and suddently realized that it was coming from her. She was at the vet last night and he took a smear & said he saw some 'abnormal' looking cells, but is sending this smear to a vet hospital in NY for evaluation. She's eating normally and only this morning starting showing signs of less perkiness. She is not running a temperature. She is going back to the vet this morning, so he can try to get urine directly from her bladder. Her bladder had just been emptied before her visit last night, so he wasn't able to collect any urine. The vet is also drawing blood and taking another culture today and sending it in for comparison evaluation, since the discharge this morning, appeared brighter red. Has anyone had any experience like this?

I read until late last noght and found that sometimes a bot of avary can be left behind and that enough to produce heat like symptoms, but I got a good look at the fluid and its like a saliva and a brownish flem. She is alert, eating well, her usual self.
Any ideas?
Perry Lover My parents have a Cairn Terrier female and she has had about 4 litters of pups. Every time before she comes into season/heat there are drops of blood from her.
Having consulted a vet who happens to be a family friend, he said that it is only because she is coming into heat. And this has happened her for years now. Her first litter was when she was 3 and she has had a litter every year since except the last year and each year, she shows a few drops of blood and sure enough there will be dogs sniffing around her within a day.
Im not a vet or anything, and if your vet cant tell you that this is wrong with her, then maybe our vet is wrong. Im not by any means saying ignore the blood, just letting you know what our vet said. My parents dog is fit and healthy and is very well looked after with regular visits to the vets.
