I think your cat is doing it, in order to get back at you for something or there must be something outside at night ur cat is afraid of. Cats do things for reasons.. Find out what is troubling your cat. With the smacking..cats don't respond to that if not done directly afterward(as they have short attention spans) For the spot try nilodour. works great
