Message subject : pregnant nipple problems

our foster cat is a pregnant teenager-- a stray, about 9mos old by the look of her, and due any day. her nipples are big and pink but seem a bit dry and flaky and there is blackish discharge around the areolas of the biggest nipples. as if there was a discharge, not coming out of the nipple's centre, but in little beads around the areola. it almost looks like the scab that forms over a slight scrape, or some flea dirt. i put olive oil on them to soften the skin up and managed to get off some of the crusty black stuff but she licked it off and now they are even drier (although it doesn't look like any new black stuff has formed). any clue what this is?
