Message Body:
Jan I am so sorry you are having a Persian with this. It is very common in certain breeding lines of this purebred cat. I have 2 myself. Does he have any cysts in the kidneys; was he ever screened for PKD at an earlier time or now? He is at the age, after 7 yrs, where many do suffer and unfortunately palliative efforts are all that can be done. I imagine the vet changed his diet also to a lower protein one. Protein taxes the kidney and yrs of high protein takes it's toll as well. This breed just has a weaker immune system than others as a general rule, but yes, some can and do respond and live for a few yrs more. However, constant palliative care is needed. Try going to the sights of: www.vetinfo.com; and www.fabcats.org; as well as www.PetEducation.com, and lastly, www.vin.com/PetCare/VetHospital. I wish your furbaby well, and for you, the strength to know what decision would be in the best interest of this beloved pet. God bless.
